Ok, so over the 4th of July weekend I got together with a few old friends I hadn’t seen in many years and it was the most fun I’ve had in recent memory. The “Reunion” is just what its supposed to be, old friends reconnecting and catching up on what they’ve done over the years. I can’t tell you how much fun it was to see the faces and hear the stories of their lives and the paths they’ve taken. It only makes my point even clearer, that we only have a short time in this world, we need to make the most of every day. I certainly hope that I can rekindle old friendships with friends of my youth again in a couple of years instead of decades, maybe you should too.

We lost the King of Pop today, Michael Jackson was only 51 years old, I grew up listening to Beat It, Thriller, and honestly the Jackson 5. His music will live on. We also lost Farrah Fawcett, I had her poster on my door for many many years, and watched Charlies Angels faithfully week and week out. As a youngster, I used to sneak downstairs and from the shadows watch the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and giggle at Ed McMahon and Johnny. They too will be missed.

I just got the new Vanessa Williams CD in today, “The Real Thing” is by far one of her best efforts, it’s mix of R & B, with the smooth vibe will have smooth jazz vocalists envious. The track that was suggested for airplay at Smooth Jazz stations across the country is Just Between Friends, but I’m going to play the first track “Breathless” why?, well because I think it embodies more of the Smooth Jazz Saturday Nights on KUDL listeners. You might disagree, but I think you’ll enjoy it. Catch the track in the 7pm Central hour this Saturday on 98.1 KUDL and always at kudl.com.

I’ve been doing some “tweaking” of the music on Smooth Jazz Saturday Night and you’ll notice a slightly different mix of music, a couple more Gold tunes and some more vocals. I’d love to know what you think about it after Saturday Nights show so please leave a comment here, or email me, you’ll find the link on the right. Follow me on Twitter too

I was so pleased to listen to this live album on Saturday, this is by far one of Botti’s best efforts, He brings so much emotion to every single piece on the album. I highly suggest that if you are Chris Botti fan, that you put this in your collection immediately and be listening for your chance to win tickets to his show this summer. All you need to do is send email to me taylor “at” kudl “dot” com. I’ll be with you on Saturday
Taylor
